There are plenty of sights or activities around Prague that kids of various ages will enjoy.
Petrin Hill has an Observation Towerwhich is the mini-replica of Eiffel Tower, a playground and Mirror Maze (bludišti in Czech). Take a cable car to the top of the hill from Ujezd Street in Mala Strana to save your breath and later just walk down the hill. Mirror Maze was built in 1891 for the Jubilee Exposition but still amuses kids of all ages and adults alike with its distorted mirrors and the warped reality. It’s open daily from May through August, 10am–10pm.
There are several museums in Prague designed for children. The National Technical Museum has tons of hands-on activities; while the National Museum is the site for historical and natural history collections.
Once in the Prague Castle area, go to Toy Museum which houses antique toys, teddy bears, several hundred Barbie dolls, robots, and steam engines. A relatively new Museum of the Miniatures is also in Hradcany. Its unique exposition is a showcase of creations by Anatoly Konyenko, a master skilled in micro miniature technique. Here children – properly equipped with a magnifying glass ‑ will be astonished to see a caravan of camels in a needle eye, prayer written on a human hair, or the smallest book in the world of 0.9x0.9 mm size which can be looked at with a microscope and which is included in the Guinness Book of Records.
Prague has lots of children playgrounds to run around and burn some energy – there is one in Letna Parkand another one by the river in Smichov; or visit Dětsky ostrov (Children’s Island) in the Vltava accessible by a footbridge from Janačkovo Nabřeži.
Puppetry tradition and marionette shows have a long history inherited from the Baroque era in Prague and throughout the Czech Republic. Weekend performances for children at the National Marionette Theater sell quickly, so book in advance.
One of the best attraction for kids in Prague is the newly renovated Prague Zoo. It is now one of the best in Europe with huge open spaces for animals and great trails for visitors.
